Flower Girl Dresses

Flower Girl Dresses are
made especially for little flower
girls, who are usually members
of the bride’s or groom’s families,
but who may also be the
daughters of friends of the family.
The flower girl may be the
youngest participant in a
wedding procession.
The tradition of having
a flower girl in a wedding
procession actually dates
back to Victorian times, when
they were included to entertain
the guests with their childlike
innocence at a grown-up affair.
Today, being asked to be a
flower girl at a wedding is
considered an honor, and many parents take pride in seeing their child walking down the aisle.

The flower girl usually walks directly in front of the bride, immediately preceding the bride down the aisle. Her job usually is to spread fragrant flower petals on the floor in front of the bride. She can also be seen carrying a bouquet or basket of flowers. When the wedding procession is over and the bride and groom are at the altar to say their vows, a very young flower girl will usually return to sit down with her parents; an older flower girl may stand next to the bridesmaids during the wedding ceremony. Flower girls in their beautiful flower girl dresses are typically between the ages of four and eight years old. Due to the young age of the typical flower girl, it is a good idea to include her in any rehearsals that take place so that she will understand what is expected of her.

]The flower girl usually does not walk back out with the bridesmaids after the wedding ceremony is completed.
The male counterpart of the flower girl is the ringbearer. Very often the young ringbearer and flower girl will be dressed as a couple, and at some weddings they are dressed in miniature versions of the bride and groom’s clothing. They will often walk down the aisle together and will be a favorite of those attending the wedding.

Sometimes the flower girl dresses are custom-made to be smaller copies of the bridemaids gowns.
When a little girl is chosen to be the flower girl at a wedding, it is often expected that her parents will pay for her dress. Besides the actual dress that she will wear on the wedding day, there are often accessories that she must have to match the dress, such as – gloves, a veil, a crown or tiara, hair bows in matching colors, and a lovely little basket that she will carry down the aisle. Of course, she will need a new pair of shoes and perhaps a pair of stockings or new socks. Maybe her mother will want to paint her fingernails, and some little flower girls even have their hair done at a salon before the wedding.
